PhD studentship for JRFs


Translational Health Science and Technology Institute (THSTI) is a part of the inter-disciplinary Biotech Science Cluster coming up at Faridabad in the National Capital Region (NCR). The interim laboratories of the Institute are located at Gurgaon in the NCR. THSTI is designed to be a dynamic and interactive organization with a mission to conduct innovative translational research and develop research collaborations across disciplines and professions to accelerate the development of concepts into tangible products to improve human health.

THSTI invites application for its Ph.D. program to conduct research in broad inter-disciplinary areas such as: (a) Infectious diseases of viruses, (b) Tuberculosis, (c)   Micronutrients and host immune response in pediatric diseases, (d) Biology of specific pediatric diseases, (e) Medical devices, implants and diagnostics, and, (f) Vaccine and anti-microbial development. Eligibility: Candidate must hold an MBBS, or Master’s degree in life sciences, agriculture, veterinary science, engineering, or pharmacy. Only candidates holding a Junior Research fellowship (JRF) from CSIR-UGC, DBT or ICMR are eligible to apply. Candidates must have first division/class with at least 60% aggregate scores in all examinations from class 10 onwards. All educational and technical qualifications should be from a recognized university/board.

How to apply: Candidates fulfilling the above requirements may apply in the prescribed format to the Administrative Officer of the institute at the above address. Selection procedure: Candidates will be competetively short-listed based on the excellence of their academic records and the list of short-listed candidates will be published on THSTI website by 29th November, 2011. Short-listed candidates will be called for an interview on 16th December, 2011. List of selected candidates for the PhD studentship will be published on THSTI website by 21st December, 2011. Selected candidates will be required to join the Ph.D. program of the institute on 2nd January, 2012.

Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology, Hyderabad, invites applications from candidates who are bonafide Indian citizens, to pursue research in modern biology leading to a Ph.D. Degree. The projects offered for Ph.D. would be in the broad areas of Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Genomics, Developmental Biology, Nanobiology, Plant Molecular Biology, Protein Structure and Function, Biology of Macromolecules, Biology of Infection, Epigenetics, Chromatin Biology and Bioinformatics.

Candidates who satisfy the following criteria only need apply:
  1. Candidates with a Master's degree in any branch of science or a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Medicine or Pharmacy, having a valid National level fellowship (JRF/SRF of various funding agencies, e.g., CSIR, UGC, DBT, ICMR, etc.), DST-INSPIRE or other equivalent fellowship can apply. Candidates with Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/pharamacy with GATE/GPAT qualification with a minimum of 85 percentile can also apply. Candidates whose final results are awaited but meet the fellowship qualifications may also apply.
  2. Candidates qualified only for lecturer-ship in CSIR-UGC (NET) examination or M.Sc. candidates qualified in GATE examination need not apply.
  3. Upper age limit is 28 years as on 10.12.2011 which is relaxable as per GoI rules for SC/ST/OBC/Women/Physically Handicapped candidates.

Written Test and Interview: All the applications will be screened and candidates found suitable will be called for written test to be held on 18.01.2012 at CCMB, Hyderabad. Candidates qualified in the written test will have to appear for interview on 19.01.2012 and 20.01.2012. Candidates selected in the interview will be asked to stay for discussions on 21.01.2012. Travelling Allowance is not payable by CCMB and candidates have to make their own arrangements for stay, etc., at Hyderabad.

Candidates who have qualified in CSIR-UGC NET Fellowship or ICMR-JRF or DBT-JRF or any other equivalent fellowship can also walk in on the day of the written test (18th January, 2012) at 7.30 AM into CCMB along with proof of their qualification for the respective fellowship.

Mere fulfilment of the minimum requirements stipulated in the notification would not automatically entail a person for selection. The decision of the Centre in this regard shall be final. Canvassing in any form and/or bringing in any influence, political or otherwise, will be treated as a disqualification.
