IIT Bombay. RA/JRF Post in Computational Studies On Bladder Biophysics

RECRUITMENT FOR PROJECT

Applications are invited from the citizens of India for filling up the following temporary position for the sponsored project undertaken in the Department of Biosciences and Bioengineering of this Institute. The position is temporary initially for a period of  1 Year  and tenable only for the duration of the project. The requisite qualification & experience etc. are given below:

Project Code, Project Title & Funding Agency
11DBT004 : "Computational Studies On Bladder Biophysics With Special Reference To Possible Mechanisms In Overactivity " (DEPTT OF BIOTECHNOLOGY)

Position & SalaryResearch Associate/Junior Research Fellow (1 Post )
Consolidated salary Rs.23000/- p.m. + HRA
Qualification
QUALIFICATION: (i) Postgraduate (PG) degree in Basic Sciences and NET qualified OR (ii) Graduate Degree in Professional Courses and GATE or equivalent qualification OR (iii) Doctorate (Ph.D. / MD / MS / MDS) or equivalent degree or having 3 years research, teaching and design and development experience after M.Tech. / M.E. / M.V.Sc. / M.Pharm. EXPERIENCE: Essential background: Computational: Knowledge of Hodgkin-Huxley model, Cable Theory, Quantitative Modelling of Synaptic Transmission. Physiology & biophysics: Smooth muscle biophysics, especially (i) syncytial electrical properties of smooth muscle, and (ii) intrinsic and autonomic regulation of bladder function, in particular as applicable to clinical conditions, e.g. bladder instability. Essential experience: At least one year experience in a computational neurophysiology laboratory working on smooth muscle biophysics. Familiarity with simulation environment NEURON, especially for modelling neurotransmission.
Job Profile
Overall goal: Carrying out computational studies on bladder smooth muscle to investigate bladder electrical activity, especially during neurotransmission. The project staff will develop computational models of neurotransmission in bladder smooth muscle 3-D syncytium, and explore the syncytial behaviour under a range of relevant conditions. This will include analysis of synaptic potentials and neurotransmission-evoked action potentials, and their implications for bladder function, for normal as well as overactive bladder.

The appointment is for time bound project and the candidate is required to work mainly for the successful completion of the project. The selection committee may offer lower or higher designation and lower or higher salary depending upon the experience and performance of the candidate in the interview.
