Faculty Positions at South Asian University

The South Asian University (SAU) was established in July 2010, by joint funding of the eight SAARC Member States (Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka). TheSAU is essentially a postgraduate and research university currently located in Akbar Bhawan, Chanakya Puri, New Delhi. Its own campus is coming up on a 100 acre plot of land in South Delhi.

Regular Faculty Positions

SAU is looking for faculty members who are outstanding scholars, and whose research and teaching interests will expand or complement the existing academic programs of the university. Citizens of the eight SAARC Member States as well as any other country outside SAARC are encouraged to apply for these positions. Selected candidates from countries other than India will be sponsored for work visa in India. Interested candidates may apply in the prescribed application form. Application may be made for a regular faculty appointment or for a Visiting appointment up to maximum of 3 years.

Special program to recruit Visiting Faculty from SAARC countries

SAU invites applications for Visiting Faculty Positions in its various Faculties / Departments. University seeks applications from outstanding scholars whose research and teaching interests will complement and enhance the existing academic programs of the University. This recruitment drive is especially meant to augment the representation of scholars from various South Asian countries atSAU. Scholars already serving in universities / institutions in SAARC countries other than India, i.e. Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka are invited to apply for these visiting positions. Citizens of countries outside SAARC region are also welcome to apply for these positions. These positions will have a maximum tenure of one year.

Current openings are for one visiting faculty (which could be at the level of Visiting Assistant Professor/Visiting Associate Professor/Visiting Professor) in each of the following seven academic programs in the University: Computer Science (Any area), Economics (Any area), International Relations (Any area), Legal Studies (Preferred area International Law), Life Sciences & Biotechnology (Any area),Mathematics (Preferred area Applied Mathematics), Sociology (Preferred areas Gender studies / Development Studies).

ICRISAT recruits Scientific Officer For International Rice Research Institute (IRRI)

ICRISAT seeks applications from Indian nationals for the post of Scientific Officer for IRRI to be based in Hyderabad. This is a nationally recruited position.

Post : Scientific Officer For International Rice Research Institute (IRRI)
About IRRI : International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), is a nonprofit scientific research organization, one of the 15 International Institutes under the consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR), with it’s headquarter at Los, Banos, Philippines. IRRI is engaged in different aspects of rice research and has its offices in sixteen countries including India.

Responsibilities :

• Design and carryout field experiments to evaluate Zinc Biofortified breeding lines.
• Analysis of micro-nutrient and quality traits in rice grains.
• Make new crosses, plant selections, maintain pedigrees and advanced rice nurseries
• Data compilation, statistical analysis, preparing work plan and report writing
• Co-ordinate seed exchange between IRRI and ICRISAT-Hub, and with national partners involved in the activities of Harvest Plus project.
• Ensure seed multiplication of identified promising lines in the project for participatory varietal trials.
• Supervise research technicians, contractual workers and maintain proper work plan and payment schedule for contractual workers.
• Perform all other related duties that may be assigned from time to time by the HarvestPlus Plant Breeder

Competencies :

• Strong writing and verbal communication skills in English;
• Proficiency in Computer skills (Ms- Office, data analysis);
• Ability to work independently as well as in a team, adaptable to working in multicultural environment.

Requirements :

• M.Sc. (Ag) in Plant Breeding and Genetics;
• 2-3 years’ experience in conducting field experiments and handling of breeding trials;
• Knowledge of plant breeding designs, data analysis, report compilation, seed exchange and coordination;
• Preference will be given to candidates with knowledge on rice biofortification and marker assisted breeding.
• Excellent verbal and written English and regional language are necessary

General : The position is for one year, renewable based on the performance of the incumbent and the Institute's continuing need for the position. An attractive compensation is offered for the right candidate.
