Junior Research Fellow (JRF) / Postdoctoral Research Associate (PDF) positions are available in the DBT-ICGEB Centre for Advanced Bioenergy Research. The positions are available initially for one year with annual extensions up to three years.

Project I (JRF: 1 & PDF: 1 [one each]):

“High-throughput screening of lipid producing microalgae through omics approach” PI: Dr. Pavan Jutur

• Identification and characterization of robust microalgae from various collections for the genetic improvements.
• Genome sequencing and annotation of selected microalgae for facilitating pathway engineering.
• ‘omics’ approach to understand lipid biosynthetic pathway and its regulation in microalgae.

Project II (JRF: 1 & PDF: 1 [one each])

“Systems Biology of microbes for improved biofuel production”: PI: Dr. Shireesh Srivastava

1. Development of protocols for improved growth and lipid accumulation in marine bluegreen algae.
2. Development of transformation protocols for marine blue-green algae.
3. Application of systems-level metabolic models to simulate growth and lipid production as well as to find appropriate gene targets to improve lipid production and selectivity.
4. Systems biology modeling to simulate cellular responses.
   Required qualifications and experience for JRFs:
5. M.Sc. in biotechnology, life sciences or other relevant field.
6. Has experience in basic molecular biology and metabolic analyses.

Required qualifications and experience for PDFs:

• Ph.D. in biotechnology, life sciences or other relevant field.
• Has experience of algal/plant molecular biology techniques.
• Experience of metabolic modeling and systems biology.
• Experience of microbial cultivation and genetic manipulations.

Translational Health Science and Technology Institute (THSTI) invites applications from Indian citizen for Ph.D. programme at Osaka University, Japan for the academic year 2013. Applicants will be screened for compliance at THSTI, and then interviewed by THSTI selection committee. Details of the Interdisciplinary Program for Biomedical Sciences (IPBS) are available at the

Eligibility Criteria:

• Candidates must hold (or expect to complete by September 30, 2013) a Master’s degree or equivalent in Life Sciences, Medicine, Dentistry,Veterinary Science or Pharmaceutical Sciences.

• Remuneration: M.Sc. + minimum two years research experience + NET–JRF qualified  : Rs.18,000/- + 20% HRA , M.Sc. + minimum two years research experience but not NET–JRF qualified : Rs. 14,000/- + 20% HRA , M.Sc. without any research experience and not NET–JRF qualified   : Rs. 12,000/- + 20% HRA 

The above post is purely temporary and will be filled on contractual basis initially for a period of one year, but may be extended on year-to-year basis, based on performance of the candidate.
