Indian Institute of Science, Junior/Senior research fellow post available | Microbiology and Cell Biology

The KSS lab of the Microbiology and Cell Biology department of IISc is looking for individuals who are well versed with Next Generation Sequencing and Microarray data analysis. The primary research interest of the lab is genetics of brain tumors. The work will include analysis of NGS data (WGS, WES, RNA-Seq and ChIP-Seq) data obtained from the IISc NGS facility (Illumina HiScanSQ) for detection of novel variants and genetic abnormalities associated with cancer of glial cells. Furthermore, variants identified through NGS analysis will be correlated with gene expression and methylation status of in-house and external tumor samples and vice versa. Working experience in Linux systems and knowledge in BioPERL, Python and Java scripts is desirable. Candidates having M.Sc. degree (with minimum 55%) or equivalent in Life Sciences, Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, Molecular Biology or any other related field with minimum of two years of post M.Sc. research experience are eligible to apply. Candidate having experience in high-throughput genomics and/or bioinformatics analysis will be preferred.

The positions are completely on temporary basis and co-terminus with the project. The initial appointment will be for one year, which can be curtailed/extended on the basis of assessment of the candidate’s performance and discretion of the Competent Authority. The position is purely on temporary basis with maximum duration of three years. The initial appointment will be for a period of one year, but can be curtailed or extended based on the performance of the candidate and discretion of the Competent Authority.
Qualification: Candidates having Ph. D. degree in Life Sciences are eligible to apply. Experience of working with molecular biology, plant breeding and genomics is highly desirable. Those with experience with plant transformation techniques, and analysis of transgenic plants will be given preferences.  
 
The Fellowship amount for the position will be given at par with the similar fellowships by DBT/DST.

Admission to Ph.D. Programme for 2013-2014
National Institute of Plant Genome Research, is an Autonomous Research Institution, funded by Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, and conducts basic and applied research in the frontier areas of plant biology. The Institute invites applications from candidates who have completed or will be completing M. Sc. or equivalent degree (by August 31, 2013) in Life Sciences and/or in related disciplines with minimum 55% marks, and have cleared the CSIR-UGC NET exam / DBT-JRF (selected through BET/BINC) / ICMR NET exam for JRF (with a valid Junior Research Fellowship as on September 1, 2013), for conducting advanced researches in the frontier areas of Plant Biology such as, Computational Biology, Genome Analysis and Molecular Mapping, Molecular Mechanism of Abiotic Stress Responses, Nutritional Genomics, Plant Development and Architecture, Plant Immunity, Transgenics for Crop improvement, Molecular Breeding and other emerging areas based on plant genomics . Reservations are as per statutory norms. The selection will be made on the basis of interview only.
The selected candidates will be enrolled for Ph.D. program in academic affiliation with the Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. NIPGR will provide shared accommodation to selected candidates.
