Admission to Ph.D. Programme for 2011-2012
National Institute of Plant Genome Research, is an Autonomous Research Institution, funded by Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, and conducts basic and applied research in the frontier areas of plant biology. The Institute invites applications from candidates who have completed or will be completing M. Sc. or equivalent degree (by August 31, 2011) in Life Sciences and/or in related disciplines with minimum 55% marks, and have cleared the CSIR-UGC NET exam / DBT-JRF (selected through BET/BINC) / ICMR NET exam for JRF (with a valid Junior Research Fellowship as on September 1, 2011), for conducting advanced researches in the frontier areas of Plant Biology such as, Computational Biology, Genome Analysis and Molecular Mapping, Molecular Mechanism of Abiotic Stress Responses, Nutritional Genomics, Plant Development and Architecture, Plant Immunity, Transgenics for Crop improvement, Molecular Breeding and other emerging areas based on plant genomics. Reservations are as per statutory norms. The selection will be made on the basis of interview only.
The selected candidates will be enrolled for Ph.D. program in academic affiliation with the Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. NIPGR will provide shared accommodation to selected candidates.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE:
  1. Application should be typed on A-4 size plain paper in the format given (Form can be downloaded from website www.nipgr.res.in).
  2. Item 3 and 5 in the format should be filled in as shown in the Senior Secondary School Certificate or equivalent.
  3. Each page in the typed application form should be signed by the candidate.
  4. Completed application must be accompanied with a crossed Demand Draft for  300/- in favor of Director, National Institute of Plant Genome Research, payable at New Delhi. A demand draft of  100/- is acceptable from SC/ST candidate provided relevant documentary proof is enclosed. The Demand Draft is not refundable.
  5. Application should be accompanied by attested copies of certificates and mark sheets mentioning the division obtained and Fellowship Award Letter/Admit Card.
  6. Two passport size recent photographs should be enclosed. One of these should be signed by the candidate and pasted on the application form, while the other should be enclosed.

  8. Incomplete applications and those received after the closing date will not be entertained. The decision of the Institute will be final and binding and no correspondence will be entertained in this regard.

ICMR in collaboration with PGIMER, Chandigarh will hold a National Level Examination for the award of Junior Research Fellowships (JRF), for Indian national candidates at Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata  Mumbai, Guwahati, Hyderabad  and Varanasi on Sunday, July 17th, 2011.
A total of 150 Fellowships would be awarded: 120 fellowships awarded in Life Sciences stream (like Microbiology, Physiology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Human Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Bioinformatics, Biophysics, Immunology, Pharmacology, Zoology, Environmental Sciences, Botany, Veterinary Sciences ), and thirty (30) fellowships in Social Sciences stream (like Psychology, Sociology, Home Science, Statistics, Anthropology, Social work & Health Economics ).

TRANSLATIONAL HEALTH SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY INSTITUTE (THSTI) is an autonomous Institute of the Department of Biotechnology under the Ministry of Science and Technology, Govt. of India. THSTI has been developed as a part of the interdisciplinary Health biotech Science cluster to be located at Faridabad which is a part of the National Capital Region. The Institute is being mentored by globally recognized National Institute of Immunology (NII) and the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Science and Technology (HMHST).THSTI is designed to be a dynamic and interactive organization with a mission to conduct innovative translational research and develop research collaborations across disciplines and professions to accelerate the development of concepts into tangible products to improve human health. The other members of the cluster include The Regional Centre of Biotechnology (RCB) under the aegis of UNESCO and the NII with which the THSTI will have a seamless collaboration to achieve the interdisciplinary expertise. The cluster will have access to the state of the art experimental animal facility and the platform technology center for the sophisticated instrumentation. The permanent laboratories of the centre will come up in Faridabad within 3  years. The interim laboratories of the centre are functioning from Gurgaon in the South of Delhi area with adequate housing, transportation and schooling facilities. Campus housing may be available when the centre moves to Faridabad.

Vaccine and Infectious Disease Research Center (VIDRC) has been set up as a mission center of the THSTI to study infectious disease and pathogens with the aim to generate translational knowledge for developing prophylactic and therapeutic measures against diseases prevalent in India.

No TA will be paid by CDRI and candidates will have to make their own arrangements for 2-3 days stay at Lucknow.  The number of students to be selected will depend on the vacancies available with scientists at CDRI.
