National Institute of Plant Genome Research, New Delhi is an Autonomous Research Institution funded by Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science & Technology, Govt. of India, to pursue research on various aspects of plant genomics. NIPGR invites applications from Indian Citizens for filling up the vacant posts on Direct Recruitment basis, as detailed below. The posts are temporary but likely to continue. The position of Consultant Engineer is on contract basis.
A.  Staff Scientists
Specialization: Applicant should have a Ph.D. with excellent academic credentials along with the track record of scientific productivity evidenced by publications in the frontier areas of Plant Biology such as, Computational Biology, Genome Analysis and Molecular Mapping, Molecular Mechanism of Abiotic Stress Responses, Nutritional Genomics, Plant Development and Architecture, Plant Immunity, Transgenics for Crop Improvement, Molecular Breeding and any other emerging areas based on plant genomics.

Remuneration: The length of experience and scientific accomplishments/quality of scientific productivity record will be major factors in deciding the level of appointment as Staff Scientist as well as starting salary in the pay bands of Rs. 15,600-39,100 (with grade pay of Rs. 5400, 6600 and 7600), and Rs. 37,400-67,000 (with grade pay of Rs. 8700 and 8900) plus usual allowances admissible to the Central Government employees.

Applications are invited from suitable candidates for filling up the purely temporary positions of Senior Research Fellow and Technical Assistant in DBT funded research project entitled "Chickpea genome sequence analysis and its alignment to genetic map". The positions will include working in the area of chickpea genomics. The work will involve generation and data analyses using next generation sequencing technologies, whole genome annotation followed by various aspects of functional genomics in chickpea.

1. Senior Research Fellow (one post): Rs. 14, 000 + HRA p.m. M.Sc. degree or equivalent in Bioinformatics with two years of post M.Sc. research/teaching experience. The candidate should have First class/division throughout academic career. Computer skills (Linux, Perl, Java, SQL) are essential in particular data analysis/management. The candidate having experience in next generation sequencing data analysis will be given preference.

2. Technical Assistant (three posts): Rs. 8,000 p.m. consolidated Candidates having M.Sc. degree or equivalent in any discipline of life sciences. The research experience in molecular biology techniques and bioinformatics is desirable.

The positions are purely temporary and are co-terminus with the project. Applications are invited for filling up one position of Junior Research Fellow (JRF) in the Institute with Dr. Mukesh Jain, Scientist, NIPGR under "Short-Term Research Fellowships" programme. The position is completely on temporary basis with maximum duration of three years. The initial appointment will be for a period of one year, but can be curtailed or extended based on the performance of the candidate and discertion of the Selection Committee/Competent Authority.

Junior Research Fellow (One): Candidates having good academic record with M.Sc. or equivalent degree (Minimum 55%) in Life Science/Biotechnology/Biochemistry. Knowledge of advanced molecular biology techniques is required.

VISITING FELLOWSHIPS: 2010-2011

To foster collaborations with the Centre’s faculty and to provide research opportunities, the Centre offers Visiting Fellowships to research scientists working in educational institutions and R&D laboratories in India. Visiting fellows are associated with faculty and honorary faculty of the Centre, and the research work is carried out in the host institution in the broad areas of Life Sciences (including molecular and developmental biology, chronobiology, genetics, ecology, behaviour); Materials Sciences (including nanoscience); Chemical Sciences (including solid-state chemistry, theoretical/computational chemistry, and inorganic, physical and organic chemistry); Physical Sciences (including experimental and theoretical condensed-matter and materials physics, statistical physics, organic electronics and experimental nano biotechnology); Engineering Sciences (including fluid dynamics, nonlinear dynamics, and thermal and chemical engineering); and Atmospheric Sciences. The fellowship is tenable for 3 months and the total period of stay in the Centre should be no less than 60 days. The fellowship carries an honorarium of Rs 25000 per month. The timing of the visit may be decided according to mutual convenience. Research scientists / engineers (preferably with a Ph.D), who have permanent positions in educational institutions; R&D laboratories etc. are invited to apply. Individuals who have utilized this Visiting Fellowship Programme earlier need not apply.

Ramalingaswami Fellowship for Indian Origin Working Overseas

Applications are invited for “Ramalingaswami Fellowship”, a re-entry scheme of the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Ministry of Science & Technology, Govt. of India.

Objective

1. The scheme is aimed at bringing back researchers of Indian origin working overseas in various fields of biotechnology, including  agriculture, health sciences, bio-engineering, energy, environment, bioinformatics and other related areas, and who are desirous of pursing R&D in an Indian institution.

Eligibility 

2. The applicant should process a Ph.D., MD or equivalent degree with an outstanding track record as reflected in publications and other recognitions.

3. Only candidates of Indian origin working overseas are eligible to apply. Those who have already returned to India and are working in India are not eligible.

About the fellowship

4. Selected awardees will receive a fellowship amount of Rs. 75,000/ pm (consolidated) and a contingency grant of Rs. 5,00,000 / year for purchase of consumables, minor equipment, international  and domestic  travel, engaging manpower and other contingent expenditure to be incurred in connection with the implementation of research project. However, the host institute/university where applicant proposes to work can consider giving additional benefits (e.g. HRA/housing, medical allowance, leave travel allowance and other benefits) as applicable to regular faculty.

5. In case an awardee finds a suitable permanent position during the tenure of the fellowship  at any research institute/ university, he or she can take up the job.  In that case, he/she will have to opt for either the fellowship or salary. However, she/he can continue to avail the contingency grant with prior approval of DBT.

6. Ramalingaswami Fellows could take up fellowship at any of the scientific institutes/ university in the country. However application should be duly forwarded by the competent authority of the host Institute.

7. Awardees are eligible to apply for research grants to any of the funding agencies.  However, the Co-PI has to be a permanent employee of the host institution. 

 Duration

8. The duration of the fellowship will be for a period of five years.  This is extendable  by another 5 years on a fresh appraisal.
