Junior Research Fellow: Emoluments as per project sanction & DBT/CSIR norms

Candidates having M.Sc. degree (with minimum of 55% marks) or equivalent in Life Sciences/Biochemistry/Biotechnology/Molecular Biology or any other related field are eligible to apply.

Senior Research Fellow: Emoluments as per project sanction & DBT/CSIR norms.

Candidates having M.Sc./M.Tech degree (with minimum of 60% marks) or equivalent in Life Sciences/Biotechnology with minimum of two years of post M.Sc/M.Tech research experience in Plant Molecular Biology Laboratory are eligible to apply. The candidature must be supported with published research papers in standard refreed journals.

Research Associate: Emoluments as per project sanction & DBT/CSIR norms.

Candidates having Ph.D. degree in Life Sciences are eligible to apply. Candidates having experience in the area of Plant Molecular Biology and Plant Biochemistry is highly desirable. The candidature must be supported with published research papers in standard refreed journals.

The positions are completely on temporary basis and co-terminus with the project. The initial appointment will be for one year or till the validity of the project, which can be curtailed/extended on the basis of assessment of the candidate’s performance and discretion of the Competent Authority. NIPGR reserves the right to select the candidate against the above posts depending upon the qualifications and experience of the candidates. National Institute of Nutrition (NIN) was founded by Sir Robert McCarrison in the year 1918 as ‘Beri-Beri’ Enquiry Unit in a single room laboratory at the Pasteur Institute, Coonoor, Tamil Nadu. Within a short span of seven years, this unit blossomed into a "Deficiency Disease Enquiry" and later in 1928, emerged as full-fledged "Nutrition Research Laboratories" (NRL) with Dr. McCarrison as its first Director. It was shifted to Hyderabad in 1958.

PhD Scholarship - Statistical Genetics - Investigating Missing Heritability in Health and Disease : Brisbane, Australia

The Statistical Genetics group at the University of Queensland Diamantina Institute aims to understand the genetic basis of common complex traits and diseases and develop statistical methodology to better accomplish this task. The successful Scholar will pursue a PhD degree in Statistical Genetics Approaches to Investigating Missing Heritability in Health and Disease within the Statistical Genetics Group at the UQ Diamantina Institute. The student will help develop and apply novel and existing statistical genetics approaches for detecting missing heritability in complex traits and diseases.

A PhD is about learning new skills and learning how to do research. We recognise that students will come to us from different backgrounds in order to learn these new skills. Projects are fundamentally quantitative and computer-based, so evidence of quantitative aptitude is essential. We will consider students from a wide range of backgrounds including, but not limited to: genetics, maths, statistics, epidemiology, computer science, bioinformatics, molecular biology, psychology, and physics.

Responsibilities :

• Design and carryout field experiments to evaluate Zinc Biofortified breeding lines.
• Analysis of micro-nutrient and quality traits in rice grains.
• Make new crosses, plant selections, maintain pedigrees and advanced rice nurseries
• Data compilation, statistical analysis, preparing work plan and report writing
• Co-ordinate seed exchange between IRRI and ICRISAT-Hub, and with national partners involved in the activities of Harvest Plus project.
• Ensure seed multiplication of identified promising lines in the project for participatory varietal trials.
• Supervise research technicians, contractual workers and maintain proper work plan and payment schedule for contractual workers.

Competencies :

• Strong writing and verbal communication skills in English;

Requirements :

• M.Sc. (Ag) in Plant Breeding and Genetics;
• 2-3 years’ experience in conducting field experiments and handling of breeding trials;
• Knowledge of plant breeding designs, data analysis, report compilation, seed exchange and coordination;
• Preference will be given to candidates with knowledge on rice biofortification and marker assisted breeding.
• Excellent verbal and written English and regional language are necessary
