The Nordic EMBL Partnership for Molecular Medicine, which includes the Institute for Molecular Medicine Finland (FIMM, http://www.fimm.fi), Centre for Molecular Medicine Norway (NCMM, http://www.ncmm.uio.no) and Laboratory for Molecular Infection Medicine Sweden (MIMS, http://www.mims.umu.se), is dedicated to research excellence in the growing field of life sciences that investigates the molecular basis of disease and explores molecular and genetic based treatments. Aiming to combine complementary strengths in the Nordic EMBL Partnership, each institute brings a unique set of expertise, skills and facilities encompassing the recognized research strengths of the EMBL in the areas of molecular, cellular and developmental biology, bioinformatics and structural biology. These areas are complemented by the expertise in molecular mechanisms of disease at NCMM, the focus on microbial pathogenicity and molecular infection medicine at MIMS and the strength in human genomics and medical systems biology at FIMM and equip the partners to tackle some of the most challenging problems of biomedicine. The Partnership provides access to scientific infrastructure as well as clinical materials, networks and training activities and adopts the EMBL model for international recruitment and scientific reviews.
The Nordic EMBL Partnership is now seeking outstanding international candidates for the positions of
PhD Students in Molecular Medicine
NCMM, Oslo, Norway
> Molecular Medicine
> Molecular Medicine
The overall objective of the Centre for Molecular Medicine Norway (NCMM) is to facilitate translation of discoveries in basic medical research into clinical practice. NCMM focuses particularly on disease mechanisms where Norway has clear strengths and investigates mechanisms of non-communicable diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular and CNS-related disease and immune disorders. NCMM develops and adapts technologies for personalised medical applications and unravels new diagnostic methods and drug targets. Applications are currently sought in the following areas: 1) analyses of molecular processes during normal and malignant hematopoiesis and 2) regulation of cancer cell plasticity. Details of the application procedure can be found at http://www.ncmm.uio.no/open-positions/.
FIMM: Helsinki, Finland
> Molecular Medicine & Bioinformatics
> Molecular Medicine & Bioinformatics
Institute for Molecular Medicine Finland (FIMM) is an international research institute in Helsinki, Finland, focusing on human genomics and personalized medicine. FIMM integrates molecular medicine research, technology center and biobanking infrastructures “under one roof” promoting translational research and personalized medicine. FIMM researchers are involved in grand challenge projects, such as the impact of genome information from the Finnish population in personalized health and medicine, development of individualized cancer medicine and novel diagnostics via cell and tissue imaging. The research foci include cancer, cardiovascular disease, neurology and viral infections. In the areas of bioinformatics and computational systems biology and biomedicine, FIMM collaborates with Helsinki Institute for Information Technology HIIT (http://www.hiit.fi), an institute focused on basic and applied research on information technology. FIMM and HIIT work together with Finnish doctoral programs to provide excellent research training aimed at a PhD degree at the University of Helsinki or Aalto University. Applications are currently sought in the following areas: 1) molecular medicine and 2) bioinformatics, computational systems biology and biomedicine. Details of the application procedure can be found at http://www.fimm.fi/en/open_positions/.
MIMS: Umeå, Sweden
> Molecular Infection Medicine
> Molecular Infection Medicine
The aim of MIMS is to strengthen Swedish research and enhance the dynamics in the field of molecular medicine, partly by promoting the career opportunities for young scientists. MIMS is established within the Umeå Centre for Microbial Research (UCMR, http://www.ucmr.umu.se) that includes researchers active in the fields of molecular and clinical microbiology, molecular biology, chemistry and physics, and the research groups have a pronounced international profile. MIMS and UCMR are affiliated with both the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Science and Technology and are closely connected to the university hospital (Norrlands University Hospital). There are currently no open PhD student positions at MIMS.
