STANDING ADVERTISEMENT FOR FACULTY OPENINGS (EXISTING & ANTICIPATED) IN THE DEPARTMENTS/SCHOOLS OF ENGINEERING / ARCHITECTURE/ MATHEMATICS / SCIENCE / MANAGEMENT/ HUMANITIES

Institute invites applications from Indian nationals, possessing excellent academic background for selection to the faculty positions at the level of Professor, Associate Professor, and Assistant Professor (under 6th CPC) in various departments and schools of the Institute. Institute is in the look out for persons with a flare of teaching and strong commitment for research. Vacancies have not been clearly demarcated and more vacancies are likely to arise in the near future. Institute reserves the right to fill or not to fill any or all posts without assigning any reason there of. This advertisement shall remain open till the vacancies are filled or till such time Institute wish so.

All applicants will have to apply through the on-line portal only (see the URL www.nitc.ac.in). All applications shall be screened and the suitable candidates shall be called for interview. Periodical interviews will be conducted based on institute’s requirements and the administrative convenience. No interim communication in this regard will be admissible. The qualifications, number of vacancies, and the selection criteria may vary in the case of the different departments and schools and shall be based on the requirement of the Institute from time to time. Note:
1. All qualifications, experience and preferred upper age limit will be considered as on 
31/08/2010 for the round of screening expected to start with effect from 29.10.2010.  
Upper limit on age shall be relaxed for internal candidates from NIT Calicut.

2. Minimum qualification for all regular post of faculty shall be Ph.D from a duly  
recognized Institute or University. However, exceptionally talented candidates with M.  
Tech degree may be considered for appointment as Assistant Professor in the  
engineering disciplines on contract in the respective Departments/Schools for a  
period of three years or till award of Ph. D degree in the relevant disciplines. Such  
candidates without Ph.D. degree will be required to enroll in the Institute’s Ph.D.  
programme, may be while taking a reduced teaching load. The performance and  
progress of Asst. Professors on contract towards acquiring the Ph. D degree will be 




monitored continuously and reviewed periodically. The appointment shall be  
terminated without notice if progress is found not satisfactory by way of the tangible
research outputs at any stage. On acquiring Ph.D degree, the contract position will
be regularized subject to approval by the competent authority.

3. Higher starting pay and/or AGP may be offered to deserving candidates on  
recommendation of the selection committee at the discretion of the Board of 
Governors.

4. Candidates with a different background and with Ph.D in a particular discipline will be
considered for the discipline related to the Ph.D degree on the basis of subjects  
studied, Ph.D topic and the post Ph.D experience and also based on the 
recommendations of the Selection Committee, if their basic qualification and the  
discipline to which they have to be considered are broadly related.


5. Minimum requirement of experience may be relaxed for outstanding candidates.

6. Mere fulfillment of minimum qualification and experience requirements do not entitle 
any candidate for a call for interview. A short-listing criterion may be set higher than
the minimum. It may vary from discipline to discipline and hence depending on 
perceived availability of qualified candidates, Institute may set different short-listing 
criteria for different streams/disciplines/departments.

7. Apart from merit, the specialization of a candidate within a discipline/subject will play 
a vital role in selection, candidate with specialization in greater need by the  
department being given preference.


8. Candidates with Industrial experience and without teaching experience should
produce the proof for their active participation in concurrent research and  
development activities by way of publications, patents, post Ph.D work etc when 
called for interview.


9. Experienced and/or meritorious candidates may be granted higher starting pay 
and/or AGP on recommendation of selection committees. For the same achievement 
In terms of research record, younger candidates may be given preference. In 
exceptional cases the recommendations of the Institute Search Committee shall be 
taken into account.


10. The Institute reserves the right to fill or not to fill any or all the posts advertised.

11. Reservation for SC/ST/OBC/ Physically Challenged persons will be as per 
Government of India norms. There will not be any relaxation in the qualification 
requirements.

12. Additional information like the reprints/preprints of the Publication, copy of the
Research Plan etc supporting the claims made in the Application form should be 
produced if asked for. Failure to produce them shall lead to forfeiture of the claims 
made to that respect.


13. Names and Addresses (with e-mail addresses and fax numbers) of at least three 
referees who may also be requested to send their reports directly in confidence to 
Director, NIT Calicut. are to be provided. Institute shall have the right to contact the 
referees directly if wanted. Candidates pursuing Ph.D. programme will have to arrange to 
send a reference letter from the thesis supervisor indicating status of the Ph.D project.


14. Persons employed in Government and Semi-Government organizations must apply 
through proper channel. They have to use the final print out of the online application after 
completing the entry of data and saving it as per the online instructions. If selected,
transfer of service, pension etc shall be governed by the relevant rules applicable for the 
Institute.


15. Candidates in an advanced stage of Ph.D. programme in any Institute are encouraged to  
apply. If selected, the candidate may be given time up to one year to complete and join 
NITC or to complete the programme after joining NIT Calicut, subject to approval by the 
competent authority.


16. Candidates who are unable to attend the interview for being abroad on the date of 
interview, on their giving specific request, will be allowed to attend interview through 
video conferencing.


17. No correspondence whatsoever will be entertained from the candidates regarding postal  
delays, conduct and result of interview and reasons for not being called for interview or 
selection.


18.The Academic reimbursements and incentives like Professional Development
Allowance, Telephone charge reimbursements of Rs.750/- per month, 
reimbursements of relocation charges from within and outside India as per Institute 
norms on joining the institute etc shall be as per the Institute rules.


19.Accommodation: All faculty members are expected to stay on the campus. But due 
to shortage of accommodation, residential accommodation subject to availability will 
be provided in the Campus of the Institute. HRA may be paid in lieu of the residential 
accommodation, as applicable to Central Government employees at Calicut 
(Kozhikode).



How to apply:


1. Interested candidates may apply online in the prescribed application format, which may 
be accessed from the Institute web site http://www.nitc.ac.in. Institute shall accept the 
application only through the online submissions.

2. Application forms with adequate information as required in the online format completed in 
all respects received on or before 29th October 2010 shall be sent for consideration in 
the forthcoming round of selection process. Application received after this date may be 
considered in the forthcoming selection round or deferred to the next round depending
on
administrative convenience. Incomplete application forms will not be entertained.
Applicants in service will have to send the hard copy though proper channel also.



3. If situation demands Institute would choose to inform the candidate through more than  
one means like email, fax, phone etc. So, complete address for communication may be 
furnished by the respective candidates.

4. Separate applications would be needed for different posts if one candidate is applying for 
more than one post.


5. There is no application fee or registration fee. Candidates called for interview will be paid 








TA/DA as per Institute rules.

6. Applications for faculty positions will be received any time during the year. Accumulated 
applications will be considered in the selection committee when it meets, as mentioned 
above.


7. Applicant shall have the freedom to fill up the online application stage by stage, but only if 
it is found completed and saved according to the instructions, the applications shall be
sent for screening process.
